The transportation of chemicals

In this article we explain how to transport chemicals safely. We explain which requirements you must meet to transport chemicals following Dutch and European law. We also explain how to find a suitable courier for the transport of chemicals.

First, the quantity of chemicals to be transported is important. Is it transporting chemicals on an industrial scale, or is it transporting small quantities, such as for personal use? Different requirements apply, depending on whether you regularly transport large quantities, or only occasionally transport small quantities.

The main rules governing the large-scale transport of chemicals are contained in the"Dangerous Goods Transport Regulation." This regulation applies to both chemicals and substances that have hazardous effects. Examples include:

• substances such as chlorine,
• fertilizers and acids
• waste oils;
• batteries;
• PCB

A shipment may also be subject to other regulations if certain products are involved. Examples are:

• The Hazardous Waste Regulations.
• Biocides Regulation

When chemicals are transported on a small scale, these rules usually do not apply. However, the general rules for transporting dangerous goods still apply.
