Carrying mirror

Mirrors can add a lot of character to a room. Sometimes you want the mirror not only for its aesthetics, but it can also serve as a functional item in your bathroom or bedroom. Maybe you have invested in an expensive mirror and don't want to break it while moving. Or maybe you just don't want to pay the high price to have a piece of glass cut for you. The possibilities are endless, but whatever your reason, it is important that your mirror be moved safely and securely.

To transport mirrors safely and efficiently, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Carrying a mirror yourself.

If you want to transport a mirror yourself, we have the following tips for you:

1) Use good padding if the mirror is not framed with glass. Pack it in a large cardboard box and surround it with pieces of foam. This way, the mirror will be protected from sharp edges even if something else breaks.

2) If you are transporting a mirror frame or glass plate, take extra care to avoid surface damage. A mirror is extremely sensitive to any kind of pressure, so the safest way to transport it is in a flat box. You can make one yourself or buy one from your local hardware store. It is important that the mirror fits snugly in the box and does not shift. If you are transporting antique mirrors, do not use a flat box because it can stress the frame and cause it to crack.

3) If you don't want to make a large flat box, you can use an old mattress or sofa cushion to transport the mirror in. However, keep in mind that if your moving company drops the item on a hard surface such as cement or asphalt, it will break.

Using a moving company to transport mirrors.

If you do not want to pay extra for a flat box, you can choose to hire a moving company. It is good to remember that the price of a move largely depends on how much you are willing to tip your movers. If you want them to be extra careful with your belongings, tip them generously

1) Make sure you explain to the moving company that the mirror frame is fragile and ask for their help with that. Sometimes people assume that because they are professionals, they are allowed to be careless with your belongings. If you tell them specifically what materials your mirror is made of, they will handle it with care during the move.

2) If the company you hire is a local company, make sure you contact them after the move. If for some reason they broke your mirror during the move, ask them to pay for it before you leave their premises.

3) Unless you made a flat box or used a mattress as mentioned earlier, most professional movers will make a custom box for your mirror. This is because it is easier than wrapping the glass in blankets and putting it in boxes. If you didn't pack the mirror yourself, ask if they did a good job.

4) Make sure the movers know that this item is extremely fragile and must be handled with care. If they don't take it seriously, you may choose to refuse their service and ask another moving company.

5) If possible, keep the original boxes in which your mirrors were delivered. If nothing else, be sure to pack and reinforce the box properly. The movers will not be as careful as you were. They may take the mirror out of the box, but they won't know how to put it back in.

6) If damage does occur, be sure to document the damage properly with photos.
