Transporting logs

Transportation of logs often requires special log transport trucks. These are trucks where the logs can be stacked safely on the trailer. Often these trucks are also equipped with an auto-loading crane to lift the logs onto the truck. However, this can also be done by a separate crane truck. These trucks often have to drive over unpaved terrain to the site to pick up the logs and therefore need to be equipped for this.

Timber transportation within europe is mostly done by rail. Large trucks transport logs along highways and local roads to nearby railroad stations where they are loaded onto trains for transport to processing plants or other locations. Trains also transport wood from one plant to another.

Wood chips are often transported in an open container. They are often transported with a dump truck. This makes it easy to unload the chips on site.

Shelves and other types of wood can be transported in many ways, depending entirely on the load. Often, trucks with sliding sides are used. This allows the lumber to be loaded into the truck from the side by a forklift truck.
